SUCCESSFUL AND UNSATISFIED

Browse through any bookstore self-help section, and you will find millions of dollars worth of books that focus on telling you how to make it, but where are the books that speak to those who have done it, yet still feel empty. Those who are outrageously successful on the outside yet terribly empty and broken on the inside.
Who would admit that being wealthy and renowned can have its bad side, its lonely side. Where complete happiness always feels slightly out of reach and having it all came at a hefty price. So what do you do now? Instead of looking to go higher on the success ladder, go deeper into discovering who you are. Begin to do the work of exploring and asking the questions that lead you to where you are now.

Questions like:
  • Why did you go into this career?
  • Who or what circumstances led you to make major decisions in the past?
  • What was your motivation? (Did you want to prove something to someone, solve a problem, save a life, become remember for something great, never be broke, be the boss, live a daring life, be different)
  • Is that motivation still meeting your needs?
  • If you could start all over, where would you begin?
  • What are the driving thoughts you have every day?
  • What are the lessons your life has taught you?
  • Do you still hold the same beliefs and principles held when you began your journey?
  • What has changed for you?
  • What are your regrets?
  • What would you keep from the life you had now and bring into a newly created chapter of your memoir.

Asking and exploring these questions is the beginning of self-exploration and greater understanding. If you take the time to answer these questions truthfully and patiently you will find you focus changes. The shift in focus will help you find what is significant and meaningful to you. Once you have discovered the purpose and mission that feeds your sense of significance and contribution, then you will able to draw the feelings of satisfaction, joy, and fulfillment from your success.
